PANAJI: The high court of Bombay at Goa on Thursday adjourned the hearing of final arguments on the medium of instruction (MoI) case to January 10. When the petitions filed by educationist Pandurang Nadkarni and others came up before a division bench comprising Justice A P Lavande and Justice U V Bakre, the lawyers of all the parties urged to take up the case for further hearing on January 10. Subsequently, the court accepted their prayer. The petitions are filed challenging the cabinet decision for providing grants to English medium primary schools in the state and the subsequent circular issued by the department of education (DoE). On December 22, 2011, the high court had directed the state government to file, by January 4, 2012, the action taken report against primary schools that had changed the MoI in violation of its earlier orders. On July 18, 2011, the high court had passed an order not to implement the cabinet's decision on MoI. |
