Cancellation of lease agreement.

I have a rental lease agreement till 2019, however I will be relocating due to a job assignment. My landlord wants that we should get the cancellation registered and I should bear the expenses. My question is, do we have to get it registered? Is a simple documentation on a stamp paper not OK?

If rent deed already registered, than cancellation deed has to be got registered with sub-registrar.
