From your version it is understood that the relationship between you and him fall under sapinda relationship or prohibited relationship. However, the distance is too far, hence consult your elders and proceed with the proposal,if they do not approve, better ignore the proposal.

The medieval age caste customs are no doubt to be respected and regarded by all, however, the outdated practices which actually do not convey any meaning to the present tech savvy and computer world, can be made flexible to certain level which may not cause flutter, hence in your case, if your parents approve of the proposal, the long distance sapinda nature of relationship may be ignored and can proceed with the proposed/desired dream life.
