Women and Soceity

During ancient times the position of women in the society is appreciable. The opinion of the women in the family is considered important. According to studies, women enjoyed equal status and rights during the early Vedic period. Slowly and gradually the status of women starts declining. There was a time when women have to go through Sati system, the Purdah system.

With the little help is of legislation, though these things may not today exists or partially exists in our society but still the women is considered as subordinate to male community. The women in the rural areas have a little or no control over their productivity. She lived in constant pressure and is subordinate to her mother- in law. Today there is a need for imparting education to each and every girl of this country.

The Hindu Marriage Act, the Hindu succession Act has enhanced the status of women in the society. There was a tradition in our Indian society is of marrying the girls of 13-14 years old. With the efforts of social reformist and great leaders, these things might somewhat diminish but till today we can find old folks arranging child marriages in many small villages in this country. The girl of today is bold, well educated and knows pros and cons of everything. But till due to the emotions and sentiments of girls, they easily distract during their colleges and universities life in the name of friends peer group pressure or simply because of having a love affairs. The path of knowledge becomes the path of dust. A VILLAGE WOMAN Our constitution has given abundance of rights to girls.

With the reservation in legislation, woman of today are ready to step out from their homes and take part in their local elections and all. But what today are hindrances in this effort is "MALE EGO". The village people especially the husband of these woman never allow them to take some initiative and participate in the functioning of government machinery. Everyday we read the atrocities of males over females. A village woman works like a "DABANNG". While she looks after the cattles, the agricultural fields, the children, the kitchen and entire home her husband is always quite busy in GAMBLING and finally reach home at night beat his wife and abuse her physically and mentally. The village woman nowadays doing jobs for the well-being of her family.

While doing all this she never forget her custom and traditions and also carry out the rites and rituals of her family as her moral obligation. Unlike man who starts consuming liquor because of stress a woman neither allows to do the same nor she do it. AN URBAN WOMAN Urban woman though fully committed towards her relationship and social responsibilities yet have not the same potential as compared to that of a rural woman. An urban woman is well educated and has knowledge about her rights and duties. It's quite difficult to play games with a urban girl who can play better.

With 498a, DV Act 2005 she knows how to use these laws in her difficult circumstances and situations and thus lives a comfortable and well maintained life. CALL GIRLS AND PROSITUTES Call girls becomes the victims of this cruel society, everyday so many crimes happen with these girls and many times these girls became the instrument of males frustration.. These girls never willingly indulge in these things. Prostitutes have to do these things for earning the livelihood. WHAT A WOMAN EXPECTS A woman is an object of respect. She loves everyone. Right from the childhood she lives under the guidance of her father and then after her husband. A woman expects love from their loved ones. For the complete growth of her personality a sense of security and a feeling of belongingness should be there. A woman when married abandons her father's home and come to matrimonial home. What she expects is dearly behavior of new family members.

At last I want to say "woman can never be wrong but situations and circumstances made her so which she never wants to become". Shally Karloopia (L.L.B 5 years 3rd year)
