Guidelines for studing distance education

Sir,
I am Aravind, working as Geologist,, Geological Survey of India. I want to study MA Public Administration in IGNOU in distance mode. What are the things i have to do? My competent authority is Director General. Whether i have to just intimate about higher studies or I have request for permission for pursuing higher studies. Kindly give me the guidance please.

The practice in vogue is to seek permission of the Controlling Authority/HoD even though this is not a mandatory requirement. Generally, permission is granted esp. in the case of distance education.

If you want to submit the certificates of the qualifications acquired by you through IGNOU, then you need permission of Geological Survey of India. Otherwise it may not be required.

It is mandatory (absolutely mandatory) for govt servant to seek permission of the deptt before launching further studies even if distance education.
It is mandatory even if you do not want to add qualification and even if the qualification add or does not add to promotions prospects
I disagree with any view to the contrary.
