Back dated rent agreement as address proof for passport

Hello Respected Lawyers of the community,

I have a very confusing situation. I have lived in New Delhi for most part of my life and as a result all my documents (PAN Card, Voter ID) are from my previous address. Unfortunately, I never focused on getting a passport back then.

However, a year and a half ago my family moved to Kolkata and we have owned this house for over a year now. The house agreement is under my mother's name and we live with her. Due to lack of any proof as yet, I have not been able to update any ID proof with the new details.

And, now I am in need of applying for a passport as soon as possible.

The only thing keeping me from it is the address proof.

Is it possible to get a back dated rent agreement to work as an address proof for passport? What are some other options?

I do not have a bank account with any nationalized bank and opening one right now would need me to wait for 6 months before i can use that account statement as address proof.

Please help as soon as possible.

Inform the fact to Travell Agents, who will get you a Passport.
Do not produce fake doc

Thank you for your response sir.

However, is back-dated rent agreement considered fake or did you imply that its fake since I am staying with my family? If its the latter then I anyway pay 7500 per month to the family contribution which is as good as paying aren't anywhere if I stayed alone.

The only problem with agents is that they charge very high as in 3000+ for normal passport and 5000+ for tatkaal passport.

If the documents showing your mother's more than one year old ownership of the property in Kolkatta is of no help for the purpose of address proof, please take it from me, even the back-dated rent agreement would hardly be of any help. If you are really living with your mother in the said property, then your mother can give an Affidavit stating those facts. That should be good enough as address proof.

In any case, please never ever attempt to and actually create any back dated documents for whatsoever purpose, that may land you in problem later, and in any case in cases like grant of passport.

Now a days, there is no agent required for getting the passport. Online application will do.

You can use rent agreement as address proof. Ask the seva kendra as to whether letter of local Counselor or MLA will do or not which is often used for this purpose in WB.
