Precautionary protection

Can an ordinary citizen ask for precautionary protection from court of law if the person doubts the opposite party might directly or indirectly cause harm? Or, inform the area police station that direct or indirect harm my be done by the other party?

Thank you for your answer. If through court means how to go about it? Do I have to file any writ or something else? If through police means do I have to file any precautionary complaint letter or to that effect.
The way our opponent behaves gives us this feeling.
