Inter religious marriage

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 19 January 2012 This query is : Resolved
Hi
I would like to know about the law/rule as in which religion can the child opt for in inter religious marriage?
I am a HINDU(NAIR-OC ) and my husband is a muslim (Mapla- BC). Neither of us are converted. now we are blessed with a baby boy. R we free to choose any religion from mine or his for the baby? or is it mandatory that the child will follow father's religion?
Kindly clear my doubt.

Hi
Its not necessary that the child born out of the wedlock of inter-religion couple will follow the religion of the father. The child's religion will be decided according to the acceptance of the society of the father or the mother. Suppose your family is accepted by your religion, then the child will also follow that religion, or if your's husband's religion accept your family, then the child will be considered as the part of that society.

After inter religious marriage the child is deemed to have been of the religion of his father unless he has adopted other religion.

It is mandatory that the child would be deemed to be a MUSLIM as is his father.

However child can choose any religion of his choice on attaining majority.

Law can not give solution for every problems.

When you can compromise and get married without conversion, why dont you get compromised in selecting the religion of your child also?

Let the child select the religion at the age of 18.

yes.. its very practical and common thing., the newly born child will be treated as per father's religion only..

but always there is a liberty to select any religion.. even he can select any one third religion also..

There is no law governing this matter rather it is the sweet desire of the child or his parents to decide which religion to follow. In south India the society is otherwise woman dominated.
Advocate. Arunagiri (Expert) 20 January 2012
Mr.Makkad,

"In south India the society is otherwise woman dominated."

It is not true, only the men are submissive / showing the polite gesture to the women, in order to run the family. Other wise the the WIFE will become (W)orries (I)nvited (F)or (E)ver.

I agree with Ld. Arunagiri.
