Validity of dual degree

(Querist) 21 July 2013 This query is : Resolved
i had filed an RTI to UGC asking validity of dual degree.... ugc replied it has not framed any policy/norms for taking two degrees at the same time (i.e. one through regular n another distance mode)
i asked two Questions:
1. if a student a cleared his/her graduation in 2011 and applied for two years PG degree course in 2011 (completed in 2013) through distance mode and in 2012 he had applied for 1 yr regular degree course like b.ed... UGC rplied as above (ugc replied it has not framed any policy/norms for taking two degrees at the same time)

What is your query. Many simultaneously take two degrees. I think they are valid.

In the absence of existence of any express bar duel degree takers should not have any trouble in their way. After all it is not crime or offence declared by any statute book of legislatures.

Mr. Pankaj,

Your queries to UGC were just of academic nature without providing any background whether the student had been attending both the courses as regular courses being conducted at the same time in a day or at different times, i.e., day college and evening college.

Even in your present query meant to be answered by the experts, you have not provided that information.

If a student is intelligent enough and he can do two courses at a time and is attending separately in the morning and evening sessions, there is no crime or irregularity.

Don't think that UGC would not have come across such type of issues at any time after its establishment. If the UGC has not framed any policy on that issue that clearly means they would be anticipating some legal hurdles in framing such a policy, as any one attending two different courses, morning-evening or regular-distant type of courses can legally challenge the UGC or university any time.

Moreover, your query is about validity of two degrees. Degrees, if granted on passing the prescribed examinations by the student, cannot be invalid. The only thing questionable would be, hHow he could take up two different courses at a time and under what circumstances/ environments he could do so, but not the degrees.

Fully agree with expert Mr.Dhingra. What is your real issue? Is it academic question or based on specific problem? If academic, experts well advised. If it is specific, come out with full facts.

Nothing wrong. Moreover, I have already stated, "Degrees, if granted on passing the prescribed examinations by the student, cannot be invalid."

There is no problem at all.
