Practicality of surname change

My name is Himanshu Goyal. I want to change my surname from Goyal to Kayal. This will NOT result in change of cast religion. It seems there is no proper law or procedure for name change in india. If it is then please tell me the law where it is written? Are there any practical difficulties in this? or does the procedure vary from state to state? I belong to Rajasthan.

Simple affidavit and paper publication regarding change of surname is more than sufficient. If you want to change it in your marks card and other school records, you will have to file a suit for mandatory injunction against the state govt.,by following sec.80 of CPC

why do you want to change surname ? if you are adamant in changing your surname it has to be published in official gazette and local newspapers .an affidavit for name change would be necessary

It would be difficult to get your name changed in all your educational certificates.

You can get an affidavit prepared, give news paper insertions and get it published in official gazette of your state.
