Section : Offering gift or restoration of property in consideration of screeningoffender-if a capital offence; if punishable with imprisonment forlife, or with imprisonment.if a capital offence;if punishable with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment

214. Offering gift or restoration of property in consideration ofscreening offender.--Whoever gives or causes, or offers or agrees togive or cause, any gratification to any person, or 4*[restores orcauses the restoration of] any property to any person, inconsideration of that person's concealing an offence, or of hisscreening any person from legal punishment for any offence, or of hisnot proceeding against any person for the purpose of bringing him tolegal punishment, if a capital offence;-shall, if the offence is punishable withdeath, be punished with imprisonment of either description for a termwhich may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine; if punishable with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment.-and if the offence is punishable with 3*[imprisonment for life] orwith imprisonment which may extend to ten years, shall be punishedwith imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend tothree years, and shall also be liable to fine;----------------------------------------------------------------------1.
