Section : Giving or fabricating false evidence with intent to procure convictionof offence punishable with imprisonment for life or imprisonment.

195. Giving or fabricating false evidence with intent to procureconviction of offence punishable with imprisonment for life orimprisonment.--Whoever gives or fabricates false evidence intendingthereby to cause, or knowing it to be likely that he will therebycause, any person to be convicted of an offence which 2*[by the lawfor the time being in force in 3*[India]] is not capital, butpunishable with 4*[imprisonment for life], or imprisonment for a termof seven years or upwards, shall be punished as a person convicted ofthat offence would be liable to be punished. Illustration A gives false evidence before a Court of Justice, intendingthereby to cause Z to be convicted of a dacoity. The punishment ofdacoity is 4*[imprisonment for life], or rigorous imprisonment fora term which may extend to ten years, with or without fine. A,therefore, is liable to 5*[imprisonment for life] or imprisonment,with or without fine.
