Srikrishna Commission Begins Probe Into Police Lawyers Clash Dated : 28-02-2009 Sourece : UNI DELHI : TEXT: Retired Supreme Court Judge B N Srikrishna, the one-man Commission appointed by the Supreme Court to inquire into the clash between police and lawyers inside the Madras High Court complex on Februray 19. The probe began even as a section of advocates continued their fast, demanding action against police officials involved in the bloody violence. Sudhan, a lawyer, who was injured in the clash and an eyewitness from general public, who was eye-witness to the clash, appeared before the Commission and gave their version. In an informal chat with select advocates and Judicial officers, Mr Justice Srikrishna made it clear that he had come to conduct a preliminary inquiry only to submit an interim report to the Supreme court on March 3. He would visit again to conduct a full-fledged probe, he added. Judicial Officers Masilamani, Meenakshi Sundaram, High Court Registrar Mala, Madras High Court Advocates Association President R C Paul Kanagaraj, Tamil Nadu Advocates Association President S Prabakaran and advocate Vaigai were among those who were present. When Mr Kanagaraj presented him a memorandum, the retired judge said he would have no time to go through memoranda and expressed his desire to talk to only those who were present at the scene and could give first hand account of the incident, besides those who were injured in the clash. He also declined to view CDs, stating that he had no time. Mr Justice Srikrishna summoned the Director General of Police K P Jain and City Police Commissioner K Radhakrishnan to appear before him and CBI officials, including Joint Commissioner Ashok Kumar, who is in-charge of Tamil Nadu and Deputy Inspector General of Police Kandasamy, along with one of the High Court Registrars to present their cases.
