New Delhi, Jun 17 (UNI) In an important observation the Supreme Court today said the provisions of Hindu Marriage Act have proved counter-productive and have broken more homes than it had kept together. The observations were made by Justice Arijit Pasayat, the presiding judge of vacation bench during the hearing of a matrimonial dispute. In the dispute husband Gaurav Nagpal had come in to appeal against Delhi High Court order, directing him to hand over the custody of his eight-year old child to the mother Sumedha Nagpal. The apex court will hear both the parties at 1430 hrs today in judges' chamber. Other judge on the bench was Justice G S Singhvi. Father is still having custody of the child. During the hearing Justice Pasayat remarked ''Hindu Marriage Act is responsible for breaking homes instead of preserving them.''
