WHO WAS BOBBIE JO STINNETT AND LISA MONTGOMERY?

Bobbie Jo Stinnett(December 4, 1981 – December 16, 2006) was a pregnant 23-year-old women running dog breeding business with her husband in Skidmore, Missouri. She was murdered by strangulation and cut out her unborn child brutally and abducted.
Lisa Montgomery(February 27, 1968 – January 13, 2021) was then 36-year-old women who was convicted for the murder of Bobbie Jo Stinnett and abduction of her only unborn child (later named her, Victoria Jo Stinnett). She was executed on 13 January, 2021 for the murder. She was residing at Malvern, Kansas at the time of the crime.

Both Bobbie and Lisa met together for a dog show event held during the period and said to have interacted through online platform of “Ratter Chatter”. Lisa during the time, alleged that she, too, was pregnant and it’s a chat between two upcoming mothers. But to be honest, she was no longer able to hold pregnancy as she underwent tubectomy in 1990.

MURDERED, HOW, WHEN AND WHY?

The incident occurred in December,16,2004 at the residence of Bobbie Jo Stinnett. The perpetrator claimed to have visited there under the name of “Darlene Fischer”, who was expected to visit her for the sale of Terrier. There, Bobbie was murdered by strangulation and Lisa made a cut on her womb brutally and abducted her unborn child.

Bobbie was first found dead by her mother, while she was lying in the pool of blood as if her stomach has exploded. Later she was confirmed dead at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Lisa was arrested at her farmhouse in December, 17, 2004 with a hand baby, which was suspected to be Bobbie’s child and conducted DNA test for confirmation.

Lisa was found as a woman who underwent a lot of abuses from her young age which continued even after her two marriages. It is considered as one of the reasons for her to commit such a crime as she was a victim since childhood also concealed the fact of her sterilization from family and spouses and incapability of being a mother.

JUDGEMENT

She was found guilty for the offence of kidnapping resulting in death established under Federal Kidnapping Act, 1932 described under Title 18 of US Code, which institute punishment of either life imprisonment of death penalty.

Her defense attorney alleged that she was suffering from unstable mental condition and has neuropsychological problems. She sometimes claims that she is pregnant and acts to make others believe so. Later doctors testified that, she was suffering depression, borderline personality disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

On January 1st of this year, her execution order was passed by three-judge panel which was held stay as it was not clear about her mental competency. The Supreme Court passed the order with 6-3vote and on 13th January she was held death at 01:31(06:31 GMT) a.m.

CONCLUSION

Lisa is the first women in the last 67 years to be executed under federal death penalty in US. It is being 20 years since the incident occurred. In other words, justice took 20 years to be held. It is thus, not only the condition in India to have delayed justice but also around the world. “Sometimes, it takes time to get things resolved”.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? WAS EXECUTION THE ONLY WAY TO DELIVER JUSTICE WHEN WE CONSIDER THE INCOMPETENCY OF HER AT THE TIME OF CRIME COMMISSION? LET’S HAVE SOME ARGUMENTS IN THE COMMENT BOX!!
