The Election Commission will hear on Monday the claims of rival factions of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) to the name of the party following a split in it.
Party chief Vaiko and faction leaders L Ganesan and Gingee N Ramachandran had approached the EC and submitted the relevant papers in support of their claim.
After hearing the counsels of both factions, the EC would take a decision, Commission sources said.
Vaiko-led MDMK is an ally of AIADMK headed by J Jayalalithaa in the state.
Parting ways with Vaiko in 2006, Ganesan had said that Vaiko had lost sight of the principles for which the party was founded and was hobnobbing with AIADMK.
