DELHI HC: MCD FILES REPLY ON THE STATUS OF COWS DYING IN GAUSHALAS 12/18/2008 The MCD filed an affidavit in the Delhi High Court in order to curb the mortality rate of cows and other cattle in the Capital. MCD’s Standing Counsel Madhu Tewatia told the court that it has drafted an action plan to curb the mortality rate in the gaushalas. Appearing before a bench of Chief Justice of Madras High Court A P Shah and Justice S Murlaidhar, Ms Madhu said that the MCD and the State government will monitor all the private gaushalas in the Capital and ensure they get proper feed. A veterinary doctor will be appointed along with two para veterinary doctors. More sheds will be made and care will be taken to ensure cleanliness and hygienic conditions there. Acting on a petition filed by an NGO that the stray cows who are captured by MCD from the streets are being dumped in the cow sadans where they die of over crowding and in sanitary conditions. MCD has assured the court that proper care will be taken to curb the mortality rate. The Court directed MCD to file their action taken report on February 11, 2009.
