The Delhi International Airport Ltd today said it has awarded a 36 million euros (approx Rs 240 crore) contract to supply the baggage handling system for the upcoming Terminal 3 at the Capital's airport to Siemens Mobility. The system will have a throughput of more than 11,300 pieces of baggage per hour. A baggage X-ray system for full inspection will also be integrated, the company said in a statement. The project is scheduled to be completed by March 2010, it added. Bags can be handed in at 168 check-in desks at the departures level of the terminal, which covers an area of 520,000 sq metre For oversize luggage, there will be five desks available, it added. A total of 28 X-ray stations will be integrated in the system so that all baggage can be subjected to a 100 percent security inspection. At the arrivals level of the new terminal, twelve baggage claim systems will ensure problem-free distribution of baggage to travelers. By Ms.Bobby Aanand, Metropolitan Jury.
