Pappu Yadav Seeks HC Nod To Contest Lok Sabha Polls Dated : 1st Mar 2009, 1030 hrs IST, Source : PTI NEW DELHI: Text: Eyeing another term in Lok Sabha, RJD strongman and MP Pappu Yadav, convicted in a murder case, will file a plea for suspension of his conviction in Patna High Court. Yadav, who is now out on bail, said he wanted to contest the election from Bihar on RJD ticket and if elected, would fight in Parliament for framing a national youth policy and setting up a youth commission for the welfare of youngsters. The Madhepura MP was convicted to life imprisonment in February last year by a special CBI court in connection with the murder of CPM activist Ajit Sarkar in June 1998. If he wants to contest the elections, his conviction should get suspended. "Legal process will continue and I will abide by it. I am sure of getting justice," Yadav said in an interview. Yadav, who is "disillusioned" with the way the youth are treated, also wants a comprehensive law to restrict "criminals and religious fanatics" from entering politics. "There should be a law to restrict persons with criminal background from coming into public life. The criminal activities should also be properly defined," Yadav said. Replying to a query, he said, "I accept that I was not in touch with the people for the last few years. But my wife, who is also an MP, has worked for the welfare of the flood-hit people in Madhepura. Even activists of my two organisations — Prabhat Adarsh Jan Kalyan Samiti and Yuva Shakti — reached out to a large number of victims in the district." About his relationship with RJD chief Lalu Prasad, he said, "there are no differences at all. I am an MP of the party and will continue to represent it." He also said that LJP chief Ramvilas Paswan and Lalu Prasad should remain in front to fight communal forces. "JD(U) by joining hands with the BJP has made a mistake. Besides, their government has not made sincere efforts to implement NREGA programme. The education sector has been the main victim in this government," he claimed.
