Man Arrested For Swindling Rs 58 Lakh 15 Feb 2009, 0401 hrs IST, TNN Text: CHENNAI: Police arrested a 32-year-old man working as purchase manager in a private company on College Road, Nungabakkam, for swindling Rs 58.41 lakh in connivance with a shop owner in Parrys. He had submitted fake delivery challans and invoices and cheated the company. The cheating came to light during an internal audit. The auditing team was surprised when they found that a few invoices had been raised in favour of a shop in Parrys when the shop had not sent any material or equipment. Probing further, the officials found that P Kathiravan, a resident of Korattur, the purchase manager, had been cheating the company. Conniving with the shop owner, Saibuddin, Kathiravan had prepared fake delivery challans and raised money amounting to Rs 58.41 lakh. The two shared equally the money thus swindled. Based on a complaint by Shyam Sundar, the general manager of the comnpany Kathiravan worked for, central crime branch officials registered a case and arrested the fraudster. "We have formed special teams to nab Saibuddin who is absconding. We are investigating further, to find out whether the accused were involved in other cheating incidents," said inspector A V Srinivasan, attached to central crime branch. Kathiravan was remanded in judicial custody after being produced in the III metropolitan magistrate court's in George Town on Friday.
