SI Suspended For Alleged Rape 11 Feb 2009, 0552 hrs IST, TNN Text: LUCKNOW: The government on Tuesday terminated the services of the station officer (SO) of Ferozabad, who allegedly raped a minor Dalit girl at the police station premises. But, the stern action failed to leave any impact on the khaki-clad, as another incident of thrashing of a woman by the police came to light in Sidhartnagar the same day. As if that was not enough, drunk Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans allegedly stormed into the house of a woman, ruthlessly assaulted her till she started to bleed profusely and knocked off unconscious. The jawans also manhandled the other family members of the victim when they offered resistance. Additional director general of police (ADG) Law & Order and Crime Brij Lal on Tuesday morning said that senior sub-inspector (SSI) Satyendra Sheel, who was posted at Fariha police station in Ferozabad had been sacked from the services. "He was not only found prima-facie guilty of charges levelled against him but also his conduct was criminal with regards to the conditions in which the victim was held back at the police station. Such a conduct from a police officer is unpardonable," Lal said. Action has been initiated under Section 8 (2) of the Police Services Rules and Appeal (1991) by IG Agra range, who is the competent authority. "The action came on the basis of an inquiry conducted by a gazetted rank officer," Brij Lal said. While dismissal orders of SO Satyendra Sheel were still under process, 55-year-old Baasumati, breathed her last on the hospital bed in Sidhartnagar district. She succumbed to her multiple fracture wounds and internal bleeding which she allegedly suffered when she was ruthlessly assaulted by a police team from Itwa police station of Sidhartnagar. Reports said that Itwa police had raided the house of Baasumati in Jarwa village on the borders of Sidhartnagar and Balrampur districts in search of her son Bindeshwari. Police claimed that the raid was conducted after two alleged robbers arrested by the police named Bindeshwari as their third associate. Allegations are that unable to find Bindeshwari, the police assaulted his aged mother black and blue in order to extract details regarding his whereabouts, reports said. They, however, left when she was knocked off unconscious. She was admitted to the hospital where she died during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Superindent of police (SP) Balrampur K Ejilearsan, talking to TOI on phone confirmed that the incident did take place and the victim had approached the police with a written complaint. His counterpart in Sidhartnagar Shridhar Pathak too confirmed that the incident had taken place but shifted the onus of registering a case in connection with the incident on SP Balrampur stating that the complaint was given to him. On the other hand, SO Itwa, outrightly denied that any such incident had taken place within his jurisdiction done by any of his staff members. More than simple confusion, the police reactions suggested that the efforts were on to hush up the incident altogether. The second incident was reported from Piprasadwa village under Pachperdwa police station of Balrampur district late on Monday night. Two Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans identified as Vasant and his associate, stormed into the house of one Lalawoo (35) and tried to outrage her modesty. When the victim resisted, the accused assaulted her black and blue. The local SSB officials could not be contacted for comments, but police sources said that the Commandant of the SSB battalion in Balrampur was conducting an inquiry into the incident. A case was registered with the local police. Barely a week ago, a police SI was sacked from services and two senior officers suspended for torturing a 6-year-old Dalit girl in full public view.
