Senior counsel Soli Sorabjee, representing Madhya Pradesh (MP) government, assured the Supreme Court that he will sort out all the problems allegedly being faced by the public prosecutor in Prof H S Sabharwal murder case. Senior counsel Vivek K Tankha appearing for the petitioner, Himanshu Sabharwal, son of late Prof Sabharwal, contended before the court that MP government is guilty of contempt of this court and because of it's attitude the Public Prosecutor(PP) is finding it difficult to conduct the case. During the hearing of Contempt of Court petitions before a bench comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat and M K Sharma, Mr Tankha also submitted that the Public Prosecutor, who has to go from Jabalpur to Nagpur on every date of hearing, is not being properly paid and MP government is not cooperating with him. This is how the trial is being delayed. According to the petitioner, the MP government is leaving no stone unturned in protecting and shielding the real culprits who are the leaders of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP), the student wing of ruling BJP in the state. He said witnesses are being intimidated not to depose before the court. After the statement of Mr Sorabjee that he himself will sort out the problems being faced by the Public Prosecutor, the apex court verbally directed the Government Counsel to sort out all the problems by August 4 and directed the matter to be lifted for hearing on August 8. The Supreme Court also expressed its unhappiness with the attitude of the MP government. Prof Sabharwal was beaten to death for canceling the students union election of Madhav College in Ujjain. ABVP leaders Vimal Tomar and Rajeev Ranjan Akela are the main accused in the case. The apex court stopped short of issuing contempt notice following assurance given by the state government to sort out the problem.
