One lakh cases settled during Lok Adalats

 

Nearly one lakh civil and criminal cases including 80,000 related to traffic challans were settled by Lok Adalats in city's various trial courts and High Court on Sunday.

 

While settling about 1200 cases under the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal Act, Rs 18 crore was awarded to several motor accident victims.

 

 

The mega Lok Adalat, organised by the Delhi High Court in co-ordination with the Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA), was inaugurated by Supreme Court Justice Altamas Kabir.

 

 

According to DLSA officials, approximately 1.1 lakh cases from nine districts were listed before six trial courts for settlement.

 

 

"More than 90 per cent cases have been settled in the Lok Adalat. The participation of public at large was overwhelming in the trial courts. We are planning to hold another similar Lok Adalat at a suitable time," Chief Justice Dipak Misra told reporters on Sunday.

 

 

"Some district courts had to work till late evening due to heavy load.... More than 16,000 civil and criminal compoundable cases such as matrimonial, cheque bounce, rent and electricity matters, road accident Cases under MACT act, labour disputes and traffic challan were decided today," Justice Misra also said.

 

 

"Besides, Rs 18 crore was awarded to several road accident victims and they will get the amount within three month," he added.

 

 

According to Justice Vikramjit Sen, Executive Chairman of the Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee (DHCLSC), about 120 out of 360 cases including those related motor accidents and electricity and labour disputes were settled in the Delhi High Court by four benches.
