Advocates leave it to CJI, collegium

he Advocates Association of Bangalore (AAB) on Wednesday resolved to request Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan and the collegium of the Supreme Court to expedite the inquiry against Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran against whom corruption charges have been levelled. The AAB, which held a special general body meeting on the High Court premises, passed two resolutions on the course of action it would have to adopt against Justice Dinakaran. While the first resolution requested the Supreme Court to expedite the inquiry into the allegations levelled by members of the Tamil Nadu Bar against Justice Dinakaran, the second condemned the Karnataka State Judicial Officers’ Association for making certain remarks against the AAB. Several members said it would have been morally appropriate had Justice Dinakaran heeded the September 17 resolution of the AAB and refrained from presiding over judicial proceedings. While 32 of the 89 members wanted the AAB to go ahead with its earlier resolution and ask advocates to boycott Justice Dinakaran’s court, 53 preferred a wait-and-watch policy. They did not want any boycott of proceedings as the Supreme Court was already seized of the matter. Four advocates did not take any stand.

See, the advocates, if they want to be correct - as advocates, this is the upper limit for them to turn to the profession - work for the clients. If there actually a mis-doing by the Judge, let them go on a writ challenging the proposal by the Judiciary !
