Assistance for Contesting Election

Government is examining the question of providing certain facilities/ assistance to female, SC/ST and tribal candidates for contesting elections to the Parliament and State Legislatures, as part of the comprehensive proposals on electoral reforms. Giving this information in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha this week, Shri Salman Khurshid, Minister of Law & Justice, said that having regard to the financial and other implications of the proposal, it will take some time before a final decision in the matter could be arrived at.
