SC Passes Interim Order Allowing Women Candidates To Appear For NDA Examination

An interim order has been passed by the Supreme Court which allows women candidates to appear for the entrance examination to National Defence Academy, which would be held on September 5, 2021. The decision was given by Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul. The Court has also directed the UPSC to take out a suitable corrigendum notification in view of the aforesaid order.

Delhi Court Discharges Shashi Tharoor In Sunanda Pushkar Murder Case

The charges against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor have been dismissed by a Delhi Court. The decision was given by Special Judge, Geetanjali Goel. The prosecution had pressed the charges of abetment to suicide and cruelty under Section 306 and 498A of the Indian Penal Code and alternatively for murder under Section 302. The said case has been ongoing since the death of Ms. Sunanda Pushkar, in 2014.

Kerala High Court Allows Termination Of 22 Week Long Pregnancy

The Kerala High Court has observed that the right of a pregnant woman regarding the continuance of her pregnancy cannot be taken away. Thereby, the Court allowed the termination of the pregnancy at 22 weeks. The decision was given by Justice P B Suresh Kumar. Under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, termination of pregnancies is permitted only up to 20 weeks. Pregnancies beyond that period can be terminated only if it is necessary to save the life of the pregnant woman.

Allahabad High Court: Nothing More Precious Than Personal Liberty And Reputation Of A Person

The Allahabad High Court has held that there is nothing more precious than personal liberty and reputation of a person. The Court stayed a show cause notice issued by Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Bahraich to one Noor Alam under Section 111 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The case was of Noor Alam @ Noor Alam Khan V. State of UP. The decision was given by Justice Mohd. Alam Faiz Khan.

SC To Consider If Reference To Larger Bench Is Needed In View Of R C Gupta Decision

The case was of Employees Provident Fund Organization and others v. Sunil Kumar B and others. The case was being heard by Justice U U Lalit and Justice Ajay Rastogi. In this case, appeals were filed by the Employees Provident Fund Organization and others, including Union of India, challenging the judgements of various High Courts which quashed the Employee's Pension (Amendment) Scheme, 2014. The Court is considering whether the issue is to be given over to a larger bench.

SC Judge Navin Sinha Retires

As the Supreme Court judge, Justice Navin Sinha retired, he stated that young lawyers need to be trained and that humility lies in recognizing one's own shortcoming. Justice Sinha requested the Supreme Court Bar Association to take up the issue of training younger lawyers stating that "today's lawyers are tomorrow's judges”. The judge has served in the Supreme Court for 4.5 years.
