A local court recorded statements of two police officials in connection with a fake passport case involving underworld don Abu Salem.

Ms Nimisha Pandey, who was then posted as sub-inspector in the crime branch of Bhopal police, and another police official R C Vajpayee recorded statements before Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohan P Tiwari’s court.

Ms Pandey, who had prepared supplementary charge-sheet against Salem, said she had herself recorded statements of the witness wherein it came to light that Salem had got a passport made under a fake name.

Salem was presented before the court amid tight security.

Public prosecution officer Kedar Singh said the next hearing has been fixed for November 4.

On November 28, 2001, a case was registered at the Koh-i-Fiza police station against Salem, Samira and Monica Bedi for having fake passports made at the regional passport office using the names Danish Baig, Rubina Baig and Fauzia Osman respectively.
