Acting Chief Justice holds talks with advocates association Chennai | Thursday, Mar 5 2009 IST The Acting Chief Justice (ACJ) of the Madras High Court Justice S J Mukhopadhaya today held discussions with the representative's of the various advocates associations. The ACJ requested the lawyers to call off their strike to give a warm welcome to the newly appointed Chief Justice of the High Court Justice H L Gokhale, who is likely to be sworn in on March nine. According to the association sources, they reiterated their stand to ACJ that until the State Government initiated stringent action against the senior police officials including Director General of Police and City Police Commissioner, the affected advocates who were injured in the February 19 clash, would not attend courts. They discussed framing of terms of references for the Justice Srikrishna Committee, which was appointed by the Supreme Court to inquire into the Lawyers-Police clash in the Madras High Court premises and the burning of the police station by the advocates. The Judges and the office bearers also decided to await the decision of the Supreme Court tomorrow and meet again on March seven. " After the decision of the Supreme Court on March six, our general body will decide about the future course of action, R C Paul Kanagaraj, President of the Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) told UNI after the meeting with the ACJ. Office bearers of the MHAA, Madras Bar Association, Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Pondichery, Woman's Lawyers Association and Tamil Nadu Advocates Association participated in the meeting.
