What is Mediation?

Mediation addresses and resolves the various issues in a divorce and family law disputes.  Mediation is a positive and sensible alternative to litigation.

Instead of battling in court, you and your spouse meet with a mediator who will help you look at the different issues and facts of your conflict and will help you to frame the issues in order to facilitate amicable solutions.

The mediator does not make the decisions for you, but rather provides you with the information and guidance needed so you can make decisions and reach solutions with your spouse. A seasoned divorce mediator has the legal knowledge and expertise to advise you of the law and present options, which will lead to solutions.

Benefits of Mediation

If you and your spouse are having marital problems, you should consider mediation as an option. There are several reasons why people should consider mediation to address their divorce and/or and family law disputes.

Some benefits of mediation include:

  • More control over dispute resolution.  Instead of the court deciding your issues, you and your spouse can reach the decision which best serve your family's needs.  After all, who knows your family better than you do?
  • More control over the pace of resolving the divorce or family law conflict.  Instead of the court dictating the schedule of your case, you can choose how fast or slow you wish to settle the issues.
  • Mediation is effective in reducing family conflict and focusing on solutions that serve your interests.
  • Mediation provides a forum in which you and your family work together to amicably reach solutions.
  • Mediation helps foster more positive communication between you and your spouse.
  • Mediation helps the parties find creative solutions that the family can live with.
  • Mediation reduces the children's stress caused by divorce and family disputes.
  • Mediation is less expensive, emotionally less taxing, less time consuming, and generates less conflict in the home.
