Rti

Hi... In response to RTI applications it has become an habit with some of the Departments to ask the applicant to come and inspect the file and find out the information that the applicant is seeking ..
In such an event,
what is the legal position? Is it open to the PIO to ask the applicant to come and search the information ?? is it right on the part of the PIO directing you to search yourself ?
What is the next step, if the applicant inspects the file and the information is not found in the file ?
After having inspected teh file, Can the applicant prepare the reply on basis of whatever information is gathered by himself as per his own understanding and ask the PIO to ratify that finding ? What is the remedy if the PIO or the Department refuses to acknowledge your findings?? The applicant could inspect the file and then submit a reply stating that the file is inspected pursuant to the letter of the PIO and i have found the information as below..... you may kindly acknowledge my letter and confirm to the above.
What happens if the PIO refuses to acknowledge ??

After verification of records, you have to find what you want and ask the PIO to give that information.  The PIO shall give the information.
