Rape threat

Can a rape threat on text or online or in general be considered as a crime in India? Is there any punishment for the same?

Quick Summary
A rape threat, whether made via text, online, or in person, is considered a crime in India under Sections 506 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). This means perpetrators can be arrested, even for online threats. If you receive such a threat, you can file a complaint with the police or cyber cell, providing all available evidence to the SHO, ACP, and DCP.
