Process to close gpo/post office a/c.

What documents must the nominee submit for closure of the deceased depositor’s account? Explain verification procedures followed at GPO level.

You may approach GPO and obtain the necessary forms as well as the instructions to comply with for claiming the death claim amount.

PROCESS OF CLOSING POST OFFICE ACCOUNT

1- VISIT YOUR HOME BRANCH POST OFFICE

Go to the same post office branch where your saving account is maintained

2- GO TO THE SAVINGS BANK COUNTER 

Approach the counter that handles saving bank accounts.

3- COLLECT THE SB-7(A) ACCOUNT CLOSURE / PREMATURE CLOSRE FORM

Ask for and obtain the SB-7(A) account closure form and fill all required details in form (like; account number , name of post office, type of account etc.)

4- ATTACH ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENT’S

Submit a photocopy of your Aadhaar card and your original Passbook.

5- VERIFICATION PROCESS

The post office Assistant Director (Sahayak Nirdeshak) at the Divisional / Regional Office level will scan and verify all document’s and account details and then process your closure request.

6- SUBMIT THE DOCUMENT’S

Handover the completed form and document’s to the counter staff where you receive the amount via cash or direct credit to your another account.

7- PASSBOOK UPDATE (OPTIONAL)

You may request final entry in the passbook and take it back after closure processing.
