Permission for the Govt employee to appear before court

Sir,

I invite your kind attention to the subject  cited above, what are the rules and regulations for a government employee (particularly Group C) to appear before in honourable court as a witness in a criminal case ,the place other than his woking place or other jurisdiction, whether he has to take permission from government ? please clarify

Mr.S V Murthy,

One has to resort to enquire about the departmental service rules in this regard as otherwise if it is not forbidden it is permissible.
