What is the new BNS section for defamation, victim compensation. Is IPC still available or only BNS now.

In the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the offense of defamation, previously covered under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), is now addressed in BNS Section 356.

This section outlines the penalties for defamation, which include simple imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both. Furthermore, community service is introduced as an alternative punishment.

BNS Section 356 replaces IPC Section 500, which dealt with defamation.

BNS, 2023 Section 356 (1) have replaced section 499 IPC for Defamation.
BNS Section 356 (2)  has been included to replace Section 500 IPC for punishment for Defamation.

Did you not find it any where, if tried to do your research before posting the question for taking examination of experts ?
