You can deposit cheque in bank within 3 months from date of its issue for clearing.
You can recover money on the basis of promissory note within 3 years from date of its issue by filing recovery suit in civil court.

You can deposit the cheque, get it honored, if it is dishonored then you can file a cheque bounce case against the borrower

What we can do if he closes the account after issuing the cheque...............

If the cheque is bounced then you file a cheque bounce case for this reason also.
