The government has proposed to set up village courts to settle civil disputes.
This, in the wake of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's suggestion at the chief ministers' conference in New Delhi to speedily dispose of cases. Home minister V S Acharya Wednesday said village courts will be set up at the hobli level. "A pilot project will be inaugurated on November 1.''
The Centre will provide 50% cost, while the state will give the rest to provide infrastructure to these courts.
