Marriage certificate

The husbands name on a Marriage certificate was incorrectly spelled 20 years back.

What is the procedure to get it spelled correctly now.

Thanks!

1. Go personally and meet the ADM / Marriage Officer in person show him the mistake in the marriage certificate for which his staff is responsible and he should issue a new set of marriage certificate with correct name. This mistake should be rectified by him for he is responsible for this mistake made by his staff.

2. However when ever a Marriage certificate being drafted by the Registrar office a rough copy of the same shown to the parties to check it and do necessary correction therein before final three (two Original and one Copy) Marriage Certificate are printed and signatures of both parties and the ADM / Registrar of Marriages taken on it. Question to recall after 20 years now is was the rough copy of the same not shown to you? If it was why did you not point out this mistake of name to the dealing clerk? This comment is due to Govt. guidelines that old records can be kept only for 20 years in original Office before it is indexed and sent packing to central record room thus expect huge amount of time and delay in retrieving old records of such archive duration.
