I have lost my original allotment letter and still have not registered the property,
what steps do I need to take to prevent any sort of misuse (both short term and long term).

apply for the duplicate copy of the allotment letter.

If you are having the doubt of the misuse by anyone else give advertisement in the local daily regarding lost document to save you from any future liability.

ya first of all u publish the notice that the paper is lost in two news paper local and apply to the duplicate allotment letter .agree with rajoo sir
