Lawyers hold dharna outside district judge's chamber

For the first time, striking lawyers organized a dharna outside the district judge's chamber here on Friday to press for their demand for the latter's transfer by the Gujarat High Court.

Babu Rayka, in-charge president, Surat District Bar Association (SDBA), said, "The chief justice of Gujarat High Court is yet to take any decision on the transfer of district judge R P Dholaria. Thus, we will continue our strike for an indefinite period."

Over 150 lawyers took part in the dharna. They want immediate transfer of the district judge in order to restore the confidence of hundreds of lawyers practicising in the district and sessions court.

Ishtiaque Pathan, senior criminal lawyer, said, "Most of the lawyers in the district courts want the district judge to be transferred. But, the Gujarat High Court is yet to take any decision. Thus, we have decided to continue our protest."
