Justice Kumar declares assets on his website

Justice D V Shylendra Kumar of the Karnataka High Court has made his assets public at his website https://sites.google.com/site/justdvskumar/asset-particulars. The chief justice had prevented the information from being displayed on the high court website.

The issue of disclosing of assets by judges caused a major debate after an article written by justice Kumar. "There need be no hesitation or reluctance on the part of judges either to disclose their assets or to make available the information to the public at large. It is a misnomer to think that the judges of the superior courts are not ready to disclose their assets," he had written.

A note at the end of the details furnished by Justice Kumar reads: "Particulars furnished may not be accurate to the pie or to the decimal but are sufficient to serve the purpose for which it is furnished."

He is the second judge after Justice K Kannan of the Punjab & Haryana High Court to disclose his assets. The latter did so to advocate Prashant Bhushan, convener of a campaign for judicial accountability and reforms.
