Is PIL effective in bringing about a social change?

Dear Friends,

Public Interest Litigation (‘PIL’) is a potent instrument in the hands of the spirited citizens of India against any wrong done to the public at large. Please share your opinion as to how effective is the tool of PIL in bringing about changes in society or are they as sacrosanct as they are made to be?

yes PIL is there to make our society prevent from wrong deeds done by one way or the other....but i dont thnk its effective....because those who will implement or execute the courts order are really important.......so many PILs were filed for cleaning of ganga...has there been any major action taken......of which results can b seen.......Indian Laws are there for everythng but depends on how to implement or execute it.....and the medium is right or not............
