Does an employee promoted in the after noon of the day of his superannuation get the benefit of pay

An employee promoted on the last day of his service that is on  the day of his superannuation (after noon)and he joins the promotional post in the after noon itself immediately after receiving the orders. Does he has any claim for the fixation of pay in the scale of the promotional post and the consequential retirement benefits of the new post or not?
