Section 420 IPC- The offence of cheating and dishonest inducement related to property by a person.

Cheating basically means a situation where a person deceives you and takes something or makes you do something which you would have not done otherwise. It warrants a punishment of 7 years, which has been laid down under section 420.

If a case is about to be initiated against a person under section-420, anticipatory bail can be applied for under section 438Cr.PC
