Dear querist, 

1. Cheating means gaining an unjust profit or an advantage from another person by using deceitful means, it is a punishable offense U/s. 420 of the Indian Penal Code. 

2. Essential ingredients of the section are - 

(a) Deception of a person. 

(b) Fraudulently or dishonestly inducing a person to deliver some property to the accused or to consent that person to retain such property. 

(c) to intentionally induce that person to omit to do some act which he or she is ordinary sense would not do, and that act is likely to cause some damage to other person's body, mind, property, or reputation.

cheating is defined under section 420 that means gaining benefit and advantages out of deceitful means and the person who cheat someone can be punished by the Indian penal code 1860 section 420
