charge sheet is initially signed by Investigating officer and thereafter by SHO and ACP concern and in state by SP.

format is provided in police rules. the related law is 173 Cr.P.C.

Where law prevails no stated common sense apply. There are stages in filing chargesheet. IO prepare charge sheet present it with report to SHO and SHO forward it to ACP concern who may if required sent to prosecution branch if any legal issue involved. Sometime If IO who may also happen to be SHO then there may be one signature also. Accused has right to question the Validity of chargesheet in cross examination. But mere absense of signature of IO does not invalidate chargesheet.
