Certificate of practice copy - cop

Dear Sir / Madam,

One of my uncles completed LLB in 2013 and passed the Bar Council examination in 2014. He was enrolled with the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh (i.e., before the formation of Telangana). However, he does not recall whether he received a Certificate of Practice (COP). He has been working in a private organization and did not pursue legal practice during this period. Now, he intends to resign from his job and start practicing law. While verifying his documents, he could not find the COP copy. However, his membership is active in the State Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh, and a COP serial number is also available.

Could you please confirm whether the physical COP copy is required to practice as an advocate? If it is required, kindly advise the procedure to obtain a duplicate COP.

Thank you.

Whether your uncle continues his practice or not, he shall renew his certificate every 5 (five) years.  And he shall submit his notary records maintained by him to the officer concerned for verification.  The officer concerned verifies the records and sends the report to the government and the government, after verification, shall issue COP.  He shall apply for a duplicate copy of COP along with a fee of Rs.750/- or as fixed by the concerned government.

Yes, your uncle (but not you) can practice as lawyer subject to confirmation by Bar Council since he (not you) was in service in private organisation at the time of his enrolment in 2014 which he had concealed, accordingly his enrolment was void and illegal.

Than you for your reply sir.

My uncle's enrollment is still active with the State Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh.  From next month onwards, he intends to start practicing as an advocate. To gain practical knowledge of legal procedures and court activities, he plans to work under a senior advocate initially. Later, he will begin practicing independently in his local area.

Your uncle is the competent person to ask any question in this regard, you cannot represent your uncle for such delicate issues, let him approach the bar association to which he belongs and find out out the further formailities in this regard, because practical issues are involved in it.

Presumably "uncle" is a ghost person, whereas it is personal issue of author.

Why should a peson who has been enrolled as an advocate require suggestion on such petty procedural persons, that too, through a third person?
