Hello, thank you for your query.

There have been arguments regarding CCTV footage. It has been argued whether those are equal to the testimony of an eyewitness. There are various troubles with the testimony of eyewitnesses and it is not always reliable. Even CCTV footage has its own problems, like the image quality of the footage, blurry footage, etc.

When a crime is committed, the accused person is convicted on the basis of evidence. The status of the CCTV footage can be discussed with reference to two different scenarios.

1. when the sole evidence is CCTV recording

2. what will be the status of CCTV footage when the recording and the testimony of eyewitnesses are not corroborating with each other?

In both situations, if the CCTV footage is proper and clear and the origin of the CCTV is proved beyond a reasonable doubt, it will be enough to establish the actus-reus at the instance of the accused person.

Hope this solves your query.
