We have 17 flats in our apartment. One of the Flat owners has installed CCTV Cameras of his own, without taking permission, one at Cellar (Common area) and one at his door. Through these cameras, he can watch movements of flat owners. Other flat owners raising voice stating damage of their privacy as the flat owner who installed CCTV Cams watching others movements. When asked, he (CCTV installer) states that he wanted the safety of his vehicle as well as to watch who is coming to his flat. Since the CCTV owner watches others movements from his house hindering 0thers privacy, can we lodge a complaint with the Police to remove CCTC Cams in Common areas?
If CCTV camera watching common area that anyone else can see then how is it hindering privacy? He is not watching your bedroom or bathroom where you have reasonable expectation of privacy. It is totally unreasonable to expect privacy in society common areas.
I don't think it violates privacy but I agree with Sarma. If you don't like the cameras, it is better to wear face mask at night and break them than to pursue legal remedies. Before you break the camera file a complaint with police that you suspect this person is aiming cameras at bathroom windows to make p*rn videos. With such complaint on file he will be scared to go and complain about broken cameras.
