Bihar: Lawyers to get compensation in case of unnatural deat

 The Bihar State Bar Council (BSBC), expressing concern over the attacks on advocates across the state, announced a compensation of Rs five lakh in case of any unnatural death of a practicing lawyer.



BSBC Chairman P K Sahi told news persons that practicing lawyers in Bihar had become the targets of miscreants since long, saying there were reports of attacks against lawyers in Araria, Begusarai and Ara.



"A practicing lawyer, Vinay Kumar Tiwari, was unfortunately killed in the recent bomb attacks in Ara civil court premises. The incidents sent shock waves among the lawyers. We have announced to pay Rs five lakh to the berieved family," Mr Sahi said.



Mr Sahi said he would visit Ara along with members of the special committee of BSBC on Saturday to hand over the amount to the kith and kin of Mr Tiwari.



Elaborating on the schemes framed for the welfare of the lawyers prepared by the bar council, Mr Sahi said, "The lawyers sustaining serious injuries in case of any untoward incident would be given Rs two lakh, while those with minor injuries would get Rs 50,000 for treatment. The scheme is effective from January one." The BSBC has also come forward with a noble scheme of pension for the advocates, he said adding the advocates quitting their profession at the age when other professionals retire from their job would get pension based on their practice. The scheme would be effective from the current year.



Mr Sahi also demanded from the state government to beef up security in and around all courts of the state to provide safety and security to the lawyers.



He also requested the state government to improve the existing infrastructure in all the courts for providing better working atmosphere to the lawyers.
