Adopting a child in Delhi involves registering on the CARA portal (CARINGS), creating a Home Study Report (HSR) through a Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA), and adhering to legal guidelines under the Juvenile Justice Act. Prospective parents must be financially and mentally stable, with specific age requirements based on the child's age.

Step-by-Step Adoption Process

Registration: Register online as Prospective Adoptive Parents (PAPs) on the CARA website.
Document Submission: Upload necessary documents (PAN card, medical certificates, marriage certificate, proof of income, etc.) to the portal.
Home Study Report (HSR): A social worker from an SAA in Delhi (e.g., Children of the World Delhi, Shishu Mandir) will conduct a home visit to evaluate your suitability.

Referral: Once your profile is cleared, you will receive photos and medical reports of a child, usually within your chosen age group.Matching: You can reserve the child. The SAA will arrange a meeting, and if satisfied, the formal matching occurs.Court Procedure: The SAA will file a petition with the District Magistrate/Court in Delhi to obtain the adoption order.Post-Adoption Follow-up: Regular follow-up reports will be filed for 1–2 years after adoption.

Key Eligibility Criteria

Age: Maximum composite age (couple) for a child up to 2 years is 85; 2–4 years is 90; 4–8 years is 100; 8–18 years is 110.
Marital Status: Both spouses must consent; single females can adopt any child, but single males cannot adopt a girl child.
Stability: At least two years of stable marital relationship is required.
